How Pinoshaw was made
Below are the three stages this one went through, from sketch tosampling toproduction. Each stage first says what judgement is being made, then shows the photograph of the physical thing — where no photograph has been taken the space stays empty, and names what is missing.

Sketch
Silhouette first. If a character is unrecognisable in a 100-pixel thumbnail, the design does not stand up yet — and no amount of detail later will save it.

Sampling
The first physical sample. This step kills a lot of designs that looked fine on paper: how the fabric hangs, which way the seams run, what the proportions become once stuffed — none of it shows in a drawing.

Mass production
Sign off the sample, the colours and the marks. The only thing worth watching here is the gap between production and the sample.
